Cherington is a wee little village about four miles North East of Tetbury, Gloucestershire, in the South Cotswolds. Winner of several Best Kept Village awards, Cherington is much loved by those who live there today, many with roots in the village that span generations, and those who have since moved further afield. Trull House Gardens

Trull House Gardens
Built in 1843, Trull House is set amidst 8 acres of gardens in glorious Cotswold countryside in the Parish of Cherington. The Gardens were laid out at the beginning of the last century and comprise many varieties of garden compartments. The features include a sunken lily pond, rockery, wild garden, walled garden, expansive lawns and mature trees and shrubs. The garden was featured in Country Living in June 2003. Home grown plants are available for sale and also cut flowers and vegetables from the garden.

CHERINGTON SHOW BEATS ALL RECORDS. AGAIN. :-)

It was hard to believe the weather would turn up trumps – as well as so many visitors flocking to our Show this year. Our village settings come into their own in the sunshine: the Old Rectory Lawn with the stalls and sideshows, bouncy castle and the band; the Cricket Ground for parking, jolly red and yellow tent for scrumptious teas, and Cricket Club barbecue; our church filled with flower arrangements; the Village Hall with amazing variety of creative Handicrafts; the gorgeous Cotswold stone buildings of Coxes Farm hosting the Art Exhibition and Horticulture competitions just next door to the Fun Dog Show. A traditional fete which evolves each year, from its inception way back in 1945 and has once again triumphed, with visitor numbers and takings both up by 20%.

Short-handed as we were this year in this small village, everyone worked so hard to make it all go with a swing. From the time of Roger Maggs’ eve of Show Hogroast to our Pizza Supper in the tent after the Show was over, we all pulled together and enjoyed ourselves in the process. So many attend our Evensong, a moment to express our thanks for ‘The day Thou gavest, Lord …’

What’s more we have succeeded well in our aim to top up the coffers of the Church, the Cricket Club and the Village Hall.

Heartfelt thanks go to all our helpers who made the Show once again a record-breaking success.

This is a great walk to undertake with sponsorship from friends or colleagues to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief. 86 mile walk across the Cotswolds from Banbury to Bath. Follows existing footpaths, bridleways and byways and small stretches of minor roads when these are unavoidable. Runs through Sapperton, Tarlton, Hazleton, Cherington, Avening, Chavenage and Westonbirt and many other places.

Elizabeth Workman and Beryl Milsom: Cherington - A Century of Change in a Cotswold Village
The annual Flower and Vegetable Show was perhaps an appropriate occasion to launch this book. It is the time the inhabitants, new and old, get together and has been held in the gardens of the Old Rectory for many years. This house together with the church, school and Cherington Park have been important and familiar landmarks during the past 100 years. Drawn from the memories of many inhabitants past and present, Elizabeth Workman has given the reader a close-up picture of life in a small, and in the first part of the century, a fairly isolated agricultural community. The volume covers the 18 parishes of the Cotswold hundreds of Bisley and Longtree and includes the market towns of Stroud, Tetbury, Painswick, and Minchinhampton. In the deep valleys centred on Stroud the cloth industry was the shaping force, adding interest and complexity to the story of even the smaller parishes like Cherington, Rodborough and Woodchester. Elevated situation on the Cotswolds, about 500ft above the sea. According to the old Gloucester histories, this small park was imparked in the year 1600.
